When I booked the Boathouse, I thought I was staying on a boat on the Danube in Budapest.
Alas!!!! The Boathouse was in area 3..the furthest from the airport..and the taxi charged me 8 Euros..almost $40 US....the
taxi drivers in Budapest are total rogues. I was to hear many scary stories...so many that on my return I booked the hotel
closest to the railway Station...and found I could walk there.
The good part of taking the rogue Airport taxi, was being driven all around Budapest. I crossed the river 4 times, and
did see an awful lot..especially as the evening lights lit up the horizon and the castles were everywhere. They were spectacular.
I was so excited thinking I was going to live in the midst of all this glory.
The Boathouse was on the Danube and the beautiful photos are from there, however, the room was a very ordinary room in
a building, with no coffee making facilities and no room service. After travelling from Tokyo to London and then onto to Budapest,
my evening meal was a small bottle of white wine and a cookie I had saved from the plane.
I felt very lonely lying there in my tiny room wandering why I had wasted my money. The Hotel was a Healing Centre, and
joyfully I went to get a massage, but the girl could not come in till after I left. I tried for a facial or haircut, but both
areas were also closed. So much for the 'healing facilities'. I found none were working.
Next day I took an afternoon city and castle tour..and took many photos during this trip. This was simply awesome...and
the handsome tour guide did everything to make the tour enjoyable. We shared dinner together after and it was a wonderful
day.
Day 3 I took the train from Budapest Station to Cluj in Romania after another fight with a booked taxi, who wanted to
charge double because he said he had to wait 3 minutes. Truly!!!!
